Ill. House committee votes on Burris Senate appointment

An Illinois House committee rejected two bills that would have canceled Roland Burris' U.S. Senate appointment and set up a special election to replace him. Critics say Burris was tarnished by accepting an appointment from disgraced former Governor Blagojevich who was removed from office partly because of accusations he schemed to sell the seat what was vacated by President Obama.

One bill was sponsored by a Democrat and the other by a Republican. The vote on both was 7 to 4 against passage.
