The National Association of Realtors says sales grew to 5.1 percent from January to February. It was the largest jump since July of 2003.Analysts expected home sales to fall.

Industry experts attribute the increase to buyers taking advantage of deep discounts on properties that have been foreclosed. They say distressed properties accounted for 45 percent of all transactions.
