Police-involved shooting at NJ motel

LINDEN Police say the officer was approached from behind by two men at the Swan Motel on Routes 1 and 9 at around 11:10 p.m.

The officer managed to draw his weapon and fire multiple shots at the suspects, at least one of whom was reportedly armed with a handgun.

Authorities say the suspects fled the scene in two separate vehicles, one of which may have been stolen.

One of the suspects was believed to have been shot in the foot. Detectives uncovered a blood trail at the scene.

The Newark police officer, who is assigned to the 5th Precinct, was not injured.

One witness said he heard around 15 shots and saw two men flee the scene.
