General admission at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium has been waived for the week. The aquarium said it timed the free week to coincide with the letting out of Chicago's public schools for summer.

General admission includes the Shedd's aquarium galleries. However, it does not include admission to the aquarium's newly renovated oceanarium. That part of the Shedd was closed for the 9 months it took to complete $50 million renovation.

During that time, the animals were transferred to several locations. The beluga whales, sea lions and pacific white-sided dolphins returned to their renovated home at the end of May. Go behind-the-scenes at the oceanarium!

General admission is free from Sunday, June 14 to Friday, June 19. Visiting the oceanarium is discounted for the week-- $16.95 for adults and $11.95 for children (ages 3-11).
