He served as the mayor of Green Oaks and chairman of the Lake County Republican Party.
Adams pleaded guilty to possession of child porn last February. Prosecutors say Adams was caught distributing images over the internet from his home.
The judge also sentenced Adams to 30 days of periodic imprisonment in the Lake County Jail. He will also have to perform 200 hours of community service and pay a $10,000 fine.
