6 Harold Ickes homes to be demolished

July 20, 2009 (CHICAGO) On Monday, workers started removing fixtures and other items from inside the buildings in the 2200, 2300 and 2400-blocks of South State Street. The Chicago Housing Authority closed those buildings due to high vacancies and security concerns.

The agency plans to demolish the empty buildings on August 3 and then redevelop the site. Three buildings at Ickes remain occupied and will not be demolished.
