Crews are beginning preparations to demolish six buildings at the Harold Ickes homes on Chicago's South Side.On Monday, workers started removing fixtures and other items from inside the buildings in the 2200, 2300 and 2400-blocks of South State Street. The Chicago Housing Authority closed those buildings due to high vacancies and security concerns.

The agency plans to demolish the empty buildings on August 3 and then redevelop the site. Three buildings at Ickes remain occupied and will not be demolished.
