Students and parents testified at a public hearing Friday on massive funding cuts for the Illinois Monetary Award Program, or MAP. Loyola University hosted the event. School administrators say the cuts affect more than 2,500 Loyola students.

In Illinois, about 145,000 low-income students get financial aide through the program.

Governor Pat Quinn says he wants to see the money restored and has been rallying at colleges around the state this week.

Lawmakers cut funding in half to deal with a gaping hole in the state budget.
