Fans lined up before dawn in drizzly conditions to get into the 277-acre fairgrounds and stand in the uncovered viewing area to see the Chicago-based media giant.
A backdrop saying "Oprah at the Biggest State Fair in America" was the centerpiece of the covered stage. The banner had images of Big Tex, the 52-foot-tall cowboy figure known for his "howdy folks" welcome to fairgoers, plus the Texas Star, a 212-foot-tall Ferris wheel.
The State Fair of Texas runs through Sunday.
