Initiative to send care packages to troops

November 6, 2009 (CHICAGO) On Friday, Gov. Pat Quinn was at the First Bank Branch in the Loop to help kick off the initiative.

The bank will have collection sites at its branches beginning today through December 4.

The goal is to gather eight tons of food, snacks and personal items.

Soup, pasta, lotion, and toothpaste are in high demand.

Gov. Quinn says the care packages will be a small reminder of home for troops who are overseas during the holidays.

The items will eventually be brought to a warehouse in Lisle where they'll be packaged and shipped.
