Thosands of National Guard soldiers honored

November 7, 2009 (CHICAGO) Approximately 3,000 soldiers from the 33rd Infantry Brigade combat team were honored, including 18 who have been killed in action over the past two years. The group represents the largest overseas deployment of Illinois National Guard personnel since World War II.

In addition to the honors program, soldiers were able to mingle with celebrities, like comedian Tom Deesen, who was the master of ceremonies for the event, and former Bears quarterback Jim McMahon.
