Carter named Gary police chief

The mayor of Gary, Ind., has named Gary Carter the city's new police chief.Carter, who served as deputy police chief, is a Gary native. He has served on the force for 19 years.

Gary Mayor Rudy Clay said he never looked outside of the department for his next police chief. "He was the man from day one," Mayor Clay said

Gary's former police chief Reginald Harris was fired on November 18. He now faces criminal charges.
