Class of diabetes drugs linked to heart problems

December 4, 2009 A large study looked at seniors who were taking a specific class of diabetes drugs. They include brand names such as Dymelor, Amaryl or Glynase.

The research in the British Medical Journal found those patients taking this class of drugs experienced more heart problems and had a greater risk of death. They were compared to patents taking another kind of pill called Metformin.

Currently there is a lot of debate about the most effective and safest diabetes drugs to take.

Experts emphasize patients should not stop taking any drugs without talking to a doctor.
