Pace has decided to scale back the number of suburban bus routes the transit agency had planned to eliminate or reduce in service in February 2010.Instead of 51 routes, Pace will eliminate or trim back service on only 24 routes. Nine of those will lose only weekend service.

The decision came after the agency heard customers complain at a series of public hearings.

The cuts will save Pace about $1.5 million. The agency is facing a $6.5 million shortfall due to a drop in sales tax revenue.
