Automated machines will be installed on the Metra Electric Line, where there are no ticket agents. Metra board members got a first-hand look at the new machines Friday morning.
Electric line riders will be able to buy one-way, ten-ride and monthly tickets from the machines. Some debit cards will be accepted.
Ticket machines could be installed at downtown Metra stations next year if they prove popular. You can already buy monthly and ten-ride tickets by credit card on Metra's website.
