Chicagoans brave cold temps, snow for free lunch

February 2, 2010 (CHICAGO) According to manager David Friday, the Kitchen was running its fifth annual Groundhog Day promotion Tuesday, which offers customers the chance to eat lunch for free-- if they can stand to sit outside.

The restaurant, located near the corner of Wabash and Wacker, was offering three seating opportunities Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Reservations were required.

Friday says the spots were all taken as early as 8:30 a.m.

In all, about 28 people were expected to enjoy lunch on the house Tuesday.

ABC7Chicago.com is told South Water Kitchen will do it all again next Groundhog Day.
