The son of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley has been called back to active duty in the United States Army. Early Tuesday, sources told ABC 7 Patrick Daley has been deployed for nearly one month.

A spokesperson for the mayor confirmed the deployment but declined to say where Patrick is serving, citing concerns for his safety.

"My son had the opportunity to serve four years in the military and he is going to be deployed and he will serve his country, just like every other son and daughter in this country does the same thing," Mayor Daley said on Tuesday. The mayor said that the call back is difficult -- as it is for any military familiy.

Patrick Daley enlisted in the United States Army in 2004 and served in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was deployed overseas in 2007.

Patrick Daley was the first member of his immediate family to enlist in the armed services. His father and two uncles, Bill and Michael, were in the Reserves.
