CPD considers using smaller cameras

March 9, 2010 (CHICAGO) Right now, the city uses the highly visible, bulky blue-light cameras all over the city to deter gang activity.

However, criminals have gotten used to them and have learned to operate outside their range.

Supt. Jody Weis says he hopes there soon will be a greater chance to capture the illegal activity by using covert cameras that have a wider range.

The city has no plans to abandon use of the blue light cameras.
