Mystery surrounds skull, bones finding

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA - March 10, 2010

Police and the medical examiner wrapped up their search for more clues and possible evidence in this wooded section off Roosevelt Boulevard near the Bensalem border.

They came away with what appears to be animal bones and more moldy clothing, but nothing they believe will immediately help unlock the secrets of the human skull and bones found in Benjamin Rush State Park yesterday afternoon just east of the Lincoln Motel.

The skull appears to have belonged to a female between the ages of 25 and 50 with some teeth still attached. Those teeth may help in identification.

One of the bones appears to be a pelvis.

There are no apparent signs of foul play.

The skull and the bones were found by two men walking the park on Wednesday seraching for deer antlers.

Anthropologists are examining the skull and bones for any clues that can lead to the identity of the person or cause of death.

Police are pouring over missing persons and cold case files to see if there is a possible fit. Police have yet to classify this as a crime or suspicious death.

Unless they get a break, this could be a long term Jane Doe.
