Travel and Adventure Show

March 19, 2010 1) Australia/Adventure vacations -- great for adventure seekers, whether you want to surf or scuba, or hike the Outback. Delta started offering flights to Sydney last summer, becoming the first low-cost carrier to do so, and that cut the prices for round trip tickets in half.

2) Philippines/Couples vacation - the scenery here makes it ideal for couples. It's beautiful! Southeast Asia is very popular right now, basically because there's so much to do there. And in the Philippines, travelers will really find unique, exciting experiences from touring the villages and markets to hiking through ancient ruins or even volcanoes.

3) Florida/Family vacation - the perfect family vacation. It's so affordable right now. You can find round trip flights from Chicago to Orlando, Tampa and Miami for less than $200. And the hotel industry is still recovering from last year, and many of them continue to offer packages with rooms under $100 a night.

BEST TRAVEL SAVING TIPS:

* when booking yourself; use consumer friendly websites like Kayak.com, Momondo.com, DoHop.com, FareChase.com, SideStep.com

(The best way to save $$ on trips is to use the "aggregators", the companies that impartially list the airfares that are available, and do not themselves sell tickets. Use Kayak.com, Momondo.com, DoHop.com, FareChase.com, SideStep.com, and if there is a sale on for the dates you desire, you'll find it)

* consider using a tour operator if you travel to a remote destination

(the more remote the area you're going to, the more you might want to consider going with a tour operator. Not only do they package activities for your itinerary, which is a great way to save, they'll be familiar with the area, so they'll be able to anticipate things that might not even occur to you)
