Longtime Illinois legislator Dick Klemm has died.

Klemm was a Republican from Crystal Lake who spent 22 years in Springfield serving in both the house and the senate.

His death was announced Tuesday on the senate floor. He retired in 2003 after revealing he had cancer.

In talking about his accomplishments, Klemm pointed to millions of dollars in state funding he secured for McHenry County projects and his part in freezing property assessments for qualified seniors.
