Aurora demolishing former Beacon-News building

The City of Aurora is demolishing the former Aurora Beacon-News building Wednesday as part of the downtown redevelopment project.The tear-down paves the way for a new downtown public library. Plans in the South River Street neighborhood also include a mixed-use development and a downtown campus for Waubonsee Community College.

The Billy Goat Tavern and 33 West Trattoria restaurants will soon open on New York Street.

In addition, the nearby YWCA building will be demolished to make room for a parking lot.
