Deerfield man pleads not guilty in Aksman murder

A Deerfield man accused of fatally beating his girlfriend's mother pleaded not guilty Thursday in a Lake County courtroom.

Daniel Baker, 20, could face the death penalty if convicted.

Police say Baker attacked Marina Aksman on April 1st with a baseball bat because she was trying to break up his relationship with her daughter.

Prosecutors say after killing Aksman in her Vernon Hills home. Baker fled with the victim's daughter Kristina and about $2,000 in cash.

They were arrested five days later in Montana.
