Mayor Daley made the statement Thursday at a news conference where he was talking about gun control. He was responding to a reporter who asked him about the effectiveness of the city's gun laws.
On Friday, Mayor Daley said he only meant to shock reporters with the remark. "No, I'm not gonna sing this song I'm sorry now but, yeah, I do regret it. I hope I shocked you and now you can write about gun manufacturers, talk about why these guns exist in all our communities on a daily basis," said Mayor Daley.
When asked why he even suggested where the gun could go, Daley said it was because the rifle he grabbed had a bayonet.
