Metra's newly hired internal watchdog is investigating 33 allegations of possible fraud or misconduct provided by tipsters over the past two weeks. Arnette Heintze heads the firm hired to be Metra's interim inspector general. His firm is investigating possible fraud and mismanagement after the disclosure that late Metra executive director Phil Pagano improperly took $475,000 in vacation pay.

Pagano committed suicide last month just as Metra's board was about to fire him.
