A northwest suburban nature researcher was killed by a grizzly bear near Yellowstone National Park last week.

Erwin Evert, 70, is from Park Ridge. He was found dead last Thursday evening in a forest in Wyoming about 10 miles east of Yellowstone where he owns a cabin. Officials say Evert was not armed.

A DNA test confirmed that a bear shot and killed by searchers was the animal responsible for mauling Evert.
