FDA suggests ways to dispose of old medicine

Experts say both behaviors are big mistakes.

Keeping expired drugs pose dangers to everyone in the family, and flushing old meds down the toilet can be harmful to the environment.

The American Association of Poison Control Centers says that most childhood poisonings are due to ingestion of over-the-counter medicines or prescription drugs.

Also, expired medications may not be able to help you when you need them the most. The FDA suggests putting them in a sealed container and then throwing them away in the household trash.
