Trendy 'Gaga eyes' could put vision at risk

July 6, 2010

Circle contact lenses have become popular since Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" video made its debut. The singer's doe-like stare was computer generated.

Now there are contact lenses that can give wearers that same cartoonish look. They cover part of the whites of the eyes making eyes appear larger. They come in a wide variety of colors, including purple.

They can be purchased on the internet without a prescription.

Some doctors say that's a problem because many of these lenses are not FDA approved. They warn that prolonged wear can lead to infections, and if they don't fit properly, they can scratch the cornea.
