The start of school is just a few weeks away for Chicago students who go to year-round schools.

School officials held a rally today at Chavez Elementary on the South Side.

Free backpacks were handed out to students.

The Jesse White Tumbling Team thrilled the crowd.

Chavez is a year-round school. Students start the new year on August 9th. Schools with a traditional calendar open September 7th.

CPS CEO Ron Huberman is urging parents to know when their kids return to class.
