Ford said many homes suffered extensive damage. He praised Governor Quinn for what he's done already but says more help is needed.
"Many families have lost everything, and they cannot continue to wait for the region to be declared a disaster. These are the moments when government must be actively engaged in our lives," said Ford, a Democrat who represents Chicago.
State Rep. Andre Thapedi from the South side is also calling for more help. He says damage in his district is not yet known.
