Firefighters were called to the 1900-block of West Polk around 7 p.m.
The fire and smoke were pouring out of the underground vault for several hours.
ComEd crews were also on the scene.
There are no reports of any injuries.
No evacuations were necessary.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
