More than 200 middle school students welcomed Dawson to Yale Elementary School on the city's South Side Monday. He urged them to work hard and make education a priority.
"I urge each of you to challenge yourself, to be the best individual that you can be, alright? And think, and look in the mirror, day in and day out, and ask yourself if you gave your best effort," said Dawson.
Monday's event was part of a new educational and community-based initiative called Cubs Citi Kids. It was developed by Citibank in collaboration with the Chicago Urban League, the Cubs, and the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
