"World Shoppe Launches New Line of Fair Trade Jewelry from Pakistan: Artisan to Speak at Trunk Show"

World Shoppe recently debuted a new line of sterling silver jewelry from Pakistan after Megy Karydes, owner of World Shoppe, returned from the conflict-zone country earlier this month. To help educate Americans on Pakistani culture, history and craftsmanship, World Shoppe will be hosting a trunk show featuring Amna Shariff, the artisan behind her new jewelry collection, at Greenheart Shop in Chicago, on August 26, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

As part of a USAID-sponsored program, Karydes was one of 14 international buyers chosen to work directly with women artisans in Pakistan and provide product development and exporting advice to the 24 businesses participating in the program. Karydes met Shariff in Pakistan through the program and was struck with the detail and craftsmanship of her jewelry designs. She immediately began working with her and developed a collection of 20 pieces to introduce to the U.S. market. The line includes statement-making necklaces, cuffs and earrings.

Greenheart Shop, the first eco-friendly and fair trade store to open in Chicago, will begin carrying the line in early August, in time for the trunk show featuring Sharriff as she makes her first visit to the United States. The trunk show is August 26, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at 1911 W. Division Street in Chicago. The event will allow guests to hear Shariff talk about her life in Pakistan and answer questions about Pakistani culture. The trunk show will feature the entire collection for purchase as well. Pakistani food and wine will be served, too.
