Lake County Democratic committeemen will meet on October 16 to fill the vacancy created by the conviction of East Chicago, Indiana mayor George Pabey. Pabey and a co-defendant were found guilty last week of conspiracy and stealing government funds.
A sentencing date has not been set.
The 2 men each face up to 15 years in prison.
Several people have expressed interest in becoming the mayor.
Committeemen will select someone to fill the term until next year's election.
