3 arrested after West Side drive-by

September 28, 2010 (CHICAGO) Each of the men arrested was charged with unlawful use of a weapon in addition to miscellaneous violations after three weapons were found, a police press release said.

Elijah Mitchell, 28, of the 7300-block of S. Yates Blvd.; Ronnie Mitchell, 32, of the 4700-block of N. Clark St.; and Timothy Walton, 27, of the 7300-block of S. Yates Blvd. all face a weapons charge. Walton and Elijah Mitchell each now face a parole violation charge. Ronnie Mitchell also received a speeding ticket.

Officers responded to a person-with-a-gun call at Kilpatrick and Washington Sunday just after 3:30 a.m. Officers saw several men crouching behind a vehicle who had just been fired upon from another vehicle that fled the scene with three people inside.

Officers say they pursued the vehicle into an empty lot on the 300-block of N. Pulaski, where the three fled on foot.

Police say Elijah Mitchell, a gang member, was seen dropping a semiautomatic handgun to the ground as he fled and was taken into custody as he attempted to scale a fence. Ronnie Mitchell, also a gang member, was arrested after a brief foot pursuit through the lot. Walton, who made it over the fence, was apprehended trying to hide at a nearby residence, police say.

Police also say they found two loaded firearms, one a high-capacity pistol loaded with 25 rounds, inside the vehicle.
