Earlier studies noted a link between kidney disease and hearing problems in certain rare syndromes. But the new study in the American Journal of Kidney Disease expands on that by showing the link can exist with any older kidney patient.
The research does not prove kidney disease harms hearing. But it does find some kind of connection.
Doctors do point out that some treatments for kidney function can affect hearing. They urge all older kidney patients to talk to their doctor about testing for hearing.
