Donald Johnson, 30, is charged with first-degree murder.
His son, Dontrell Johnson, was found floating in Lake Michigan last Thursday.
An autopsy revealed the baby died of strangulation.
Dontrell had been missing since a week ago Monday, when his father picked him up from a relative's home.
