According to the study in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, only one in five doctors in the U.S. follows all the recommended guidelines. Some 40 percent follow guidelines for some tests, while the remaining 40 percent don't follow guidelines for any colon cancer screens.
Researchers found those that did follow screening guidelines tended to be younger and board certified. They add, patients also have a role to play in cancer screening, knowing when they need to be screened, what tests are available and how often they are needed.
