For the first time, people who want to be a 'principal for a day' in Chicago are being asked if they also want to donate money to the school district.

Officials are asking for pledges of at least $1,000 in cash or services. They say that by asking for pledges from the volunteers they are hoping to keeping the partnership going beyond that one day.

The strategy seems to have worked. The district has already received pledges worth between $950,000 and $1.5 million.
