City Council mulling ban of caffeinated alcohol drinks

Chicago City Council is considering a ban on the sale of alcoholic drinks that come pre-mixed with caffeine.

Aldermen Ed Burke and Gene Schulter are sponsoring the proposal.

It follows the recent incidents in which college students in New Jersey and Washington state got sick after drinking the popular beverage Four Loko.

The FDA is looking at whether caffeine and alcohol can safely be mixed and consumed as a single beverage.
