Congressman Danny Davis has begun collecting signatures to get on the ballot now that he is a declared candidate for mayor of Chicago.

Davis hosted a petition drive Sunday night at the New Tabernacle of Faith Baptist Church on the city's North Side.

Davis became a candidate Saturday after he was endorsed by an organization called the Chicago Coalition for Mayor, a group of public officials and religious leaders.

Davis says he wants to improve the city's schools and its finances.
