Hospital checklists could prevent errors, reducing complications and preventing deaths.

That's the finding of a new study that has some experts saying every hospital should start using checklists to safeguard against errors.

The checklist included about 100 items, covering pre-operative care, the operating room itself, recovery or intensive care and post-operative care. The study in the New England Journal of Medicine found checklists reduced complications by one-third, and hospital deaths were cut in half.
