Mayoral candidate Gery Chico is urging the legislature to pass a bill that would allow civil unions.

Chicago met with members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community at a North Side restaurant Sunday. The bill, which may be considered by the general assembly this week, would make civil unions legal for same sex couples in Illinois.

Chico also said if elected Chicago mayor he'll work to allow gay marriage in Illinois.
