Wis. authorities ask residents to stay off roads

December 12, 2010 (MADISON, Wis.) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the State Patrol say they're monitoring highways in case conditions should warrant emergency road closures.

The National Weather Service has issued blizzard and winter-storm warnings across the state through Sunday morning. Heavy snow and high winds were creating near white-out conditions in western Wisconsin, and meteorologists warned that the storm would eventually hit the whole state.

Chippewa County had about a foot of snow by Saturday afternoon. The National Weather Service says there could be 18 to 24 inches of total snowfall by Sunday in Buffalo, Eau Claire, Clark, Taylor and Marathon counties.
