Riders on the South Shore Line face a 2-percent fare hike in June. But the commuter railroad says it won't cut service next year.

A $40 million budget was just approved by the Northwest Indiana Commuter Transportation District Board. It includes a projected $1.7 million deficit.

The general manager for the commuter line says the railroad hopes to cover that with added revenues as the economy recovers.
