Firefighters were able to get 97-year-old Susie West out of her home at 77th and South Constance, but she later died at the hospital. The fire broke out late Monday night. The cause isn't known.
Two others were hurt.
In response to this fire, members of the Chicago Fire Department canvassed the South Shore community Tuesday to pass out free smoke detectors and other fire safety information.
