Police say Johnny Maldonado, of the 5800-block of South St. Louis Ave., shot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 5:43 p.m. Sunday.
Investigators are looking at how the boy obtained the gun.
