White Christmas as snow blankets Chicagoland area

December 25, 2010 (CHICAGO)

A snow advisory is in effect for several Illinois counties.

Several spinouts and accidents were reported across the area. IDOT crews are plowing the expressways and putting down salt. Officials said bridges and ramps are causing the biggest problems.

The City of Chicago has dispatched nearly 200 snow trucks to take care of the main streets. Drivers are urged to use caution.

Minor delays at Chicago airports

No major delays or cancelations are reported at either of Chicago's airports, where planes are going through thorough de-icing procedures before takeoff. However, some passengers appear to be stuck at the airport longer than hoped over the holiday weekend.

Nationwide, there are more issues due to weather. Delta expects to cancel about 500 flights because of the weather, including 300 of its 800 scheduled Atlanta departures. Atlanta is expecting a rare White Christmas.
