Donors help replace Wis. soldiers' destroyed gear

December 25, 2010 (MADISON, Wis.) Donors helped replace clothes and music players. The Medical College of Wisconsin also donated nine laptop computers.

The soldiers are members of the Madison-based Army Reserves 911th Forward Surgical Team. The unit of surgeons, nurses and medics arrived in Iraq in May. Their deployment is expected to last a year.

Many were in a tent in early September when they heard rockets fly overhead. Seconds after they sprinted to a nearby bunker a third rocket landed on their tent, destroying their gear.

The donated laptops arrived last week. Lt. Col. David Gourlay tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the soldiers are grateful for the donors' generosity.
