A police chaplain was seriously hurt in a squad crash Sunday night during a 'ride-along' with an Aurora police officer.

Sixty-eight-year-old Reverend Jerome Leake was in the front passenger seat when the officer responded to a burglary in progress. The officer hit a patch of ice and lost control of the vehicle, striking a tree.

The officer was treated and released, but the chaplain was airlifted to a hospital and is expected to survive.

Leake goes on at least two ride-alongs every week.
