Longtime 47th Ward alderman Eugene Schulter will not seek re-election.

Schulter dropped out of the race because he is seeking an appointment to the Cook County Board of Review, which hears property tax appeals.

He released a statement saying serving on the board would allow him to continue to advocate on behalf of community residents.

Schulter has held his city council seat for 35 years. He is the 11th alderman to recently resign or abandon a campaign.
